Killen’s Barbecue put Pearland on the Texas-barbecue map in 2013 with their giant beef ribs, tender brisket, and scrumptious sides. A decade later, Killen’s has since landed multiple accolades and immense praise including their latest with the Texas Travel Awards for Best Big Market Restaurant in the state.

The restaurant resides in the renovated cafeteria of Pearland’s historic 1937 high school and attracts food enthusiasts from far and wide, making rank in Texas Monthly‘s Top 50 Best BBQ Joints list in 2021.

“As a prominent tourist destination in Pearland, we were proud to nominate Killen’s Barbecue for the Texas Travel Award,” said Tracy Rohrbacher, executive director of the Pearland Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Killen’s is a testament to how significant Pearland’s culinary journey has been to both the community and to visitors alike.”

The Texas Travel Awards shine a spotlight on the most exciting, innovative, and inviting places around the state. The 2024 winners represent uniquely Texas places and experiences worthy of Texas travelers’ itineraries.

Nominees were organized into categories and scored by an elite panel of judges that included travel industry professionals, travel journalists, and a touring musician.

The menu at Killen’s Barbecue has evolved with added dinner service items and daily specials like chicken-fried steak, quesadilla plates, and seafood platters, but barbecue plates, sandwiches, and potato salad still reign supreme.

“And the bread pudding,” Rohrbacher continued. “The bread pudding is so delicious it’s earned news coverage on its own; be sure to add it to your order.”
