Communities all over America create ways to celebrate the travel and tourism industry and draw attention to the economic impact the industry has in our cities. The celebration reinforces the U.S. Travel Association’s multiyear campaign – known as Travel Effect – to prove the huge impact that travel and tourism has in our lives, businesses, local, state and national economies.
“The numbers tell the story: Travel supports 14.9 million jobs across the nation, and more importantly travel is one of the largest industries in the State of Texas. In 2012 , travelers spent $65.7 billion in the State of Texas and generated tax revenues of $4.4 billion, directly supporting 568,000 jobs.” said Kim Sinistore, Executive Director Pearland Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Locally, the Travel Effect is especially significant for the City of Pearland with:
– $117 million in visitor spending in 2012;
– $2.9 million in local tax revenues which includes sales tax and occupancy tax;
– 950 total employment.
This year, the Pearland Convention and Visitors Bureau invites residents to extend an invitation to their out of town family and friends to experience what the city has to offer this Summer with special rates and packages. Family members visiting for graduations, reunions and such can take advantage of special rates and packages for a weekend stay in Pearland. Stay in Pearland to have fun in the Gulf Coast of Texas with beaches, boardwalks, and museums nearby.
Additionally, the Pearland Convention & Visitors Bureau will commemorate the National Travel and Tourism week with daily giveaways on their Facebook page and an upcoming sweepstakes promotion running through the Summer.
