Members of the Southwestern Trail Ride Association saddle up for their annual trail ride to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo from West Columbia, Texas. The weeklong journey began for 250 riders and 10 wagons on Saturday, February 25, 2017 and ends on Go Texan Day, Friday, March 3rd at Houston’s Memorial Park.
Marking their 44th year on the trail, the Southwestern Trail Ride Association will once again travel through Pearland to get to their final destination. The crew will make overnight camp at Tom Bass Park just outside Pearland on Highway 288 and Beltway 8 on Tuesday, February 28th.
The wagons will circle around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 1st leaving Tom Bass Park to complete another 10-mile leg in their journey. They will pull out of the park; make a u-turn and head west on Beltway 8. They will proceed to Almeda School Road turning right and then left on Fellows Road en route to their next overnight camp.
All thirteen trail ride groups will assemble at Houston’s Memorial Park on Friday, March 3rd for an Awards Ceremony presented by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Officials in preparation for the Rodeo Parade in Downtown Houston on Saturday.
