The ribbon cutting for Phase II of the Sports Complex at Shadow Creek Ranch will take place on Saturday, March 12 at 9 a.m. In conjunction with the ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony, the Forever Parks Foundation will unveil the design for the new inclusive playground.
The Phase II project of the park includes two cricket/rugby fields, a multipurpose ‘Miracle Field” area (a sports surface designed to accommodate special needs athletes), additional field lighting, approximately 250 parking spaces, and expanded restrooms and concession offerings.
City and Parks & Recreation staff, city leadership, elected officials, and key stakeholders will be in attendance for the grand opening and ribbon cutting.
Grand opening activities will begin immediately following the ceremonies, featuring a Miracle League Exhibition and rugby matches. Then on Sunday, a full day of cricket activities– including youth and adult matches, training, and entertainment is scheduled to cap off the incredible grand opening.
“The two-day ceremony will be a true celebration of what has been lots of hard work by many over several years,” said Parks & Recreation Athletics and Aquatics Manager Brandon Torres. “We are very appreciative of the support and efforts by everyone involved to make this a reality. The community has been buzzing to finally start using the fields and we are ready to put on some great programs and events for them.”
As Pearland continues to grow, the diversity of the community presents an expanding need for diverse programming. The need for rugby and miracle fields are increasing due to the City of Houston acquiring a National Rugby Franchise, and the continued growth of quality of life for disabled populations due to proximity to the expanding Texas Medical Center.
Phase II of the Shadow Creek Sports Complex is a part of the Parks Master Plan and will also be reimbursed to the City as part of the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) #2.
