PEARSCAPE SPONSORSHIP

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is PearScape?

PearScape is a city-wide public art initiative that brings artist-designed sculptures into spaces across Pearland. The program celebrates and supports artists while creating meaningful, shared experiences for residents and visitors.

Rooted in the stewardship of public art, PearScape ensures that each work is thoughtfully placed, maintained, and experienced as part of Pearland’s evolving cultural landscape.

How does the program work?

PearScape invites businesses, organizations, and individuals to sponsor sculptures as part of a growing public art experience across the city.

Selected artists are commissioned through a curated process to design and create each piece. Sculptures are then installed in approved locations throughout Pearland, contributing to a city-wide cultural experience.

Who can participate?

Artists working in all media are invited to apply for inclusion in the Visit Pearland Artist Roster, a pre-qualified directory of artists considered for upcoming public art projects in the City of Pearland.

Interested in businesses, organizations, and individuals are invited to participate by sponsoring a sculpture as part of the PearScape program.

How much does it cost to sponsor a sculpture?

PearScape Trail Sculpture: $9,500 (10-year sponsorship)

Sponsorship includes artist engagement, fabrication, priming, sealing, installation, professional photography, and recognition as part of the PearScape program.

Sponsors serve as champions of the arts, supporting both the creation and stewardship of public art across Pearland.

Where does the money go?

Sponsorship fees support artist commissions, fabrication, and installation of each sculpture.

Additional program costs are funded by Visit Pearland through Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) revenues, which are restricted to supporting tourism and the arts. No General Fund (property tax) dollars are used.

These investments contribute to the long-term stewardship of public art across Pearland, ensuring each work is cared for as part of the city’s cultural environment.

How are artists selected?

Sponsors may select an artist from the Approved Artist Roster or propose an artist for consideration. All artists must be reviewed and approved prior to participation.

Artists and sponsors work collaboratively with the Visit Pearland Arts Administrator to develop each concept. All designs are reviewed to ensure alignment with PearScape public art program guidelines.

Can the sculpture reflect my business or organization?

Sponsors are encouraged to share their story, values, or community connection with the artist.

While direct advertising elements or logos are not permitted, the artist may incorporate themes, colors, or imagery that reflect your identity in a creative and meaningful way.

How long does the process take?

The full design and production process timeline is approximately 10 to 14 weeks:

  • Up to six weeks for concept development and sponsor review
  • Up to eight weeks for painting, sealing, and installation
This timeline ensures quality craftsmanship and allows for meaningful collaboration between the artist, sponsor, and the Visit Pearland Arts Administrator.

How is the location determined?

Each installation site must be reviewed and formally approved by Visit Pearland prior to production.

Sculptures are placed in visible, accessible locations throughout Pearland, prioritizing safety, public engagement, and alignment with the goals of the program.

How long will my sculpture remain on display?

PearScape Trail sculptures: 10 years

At the end of the term and at their choice, all sponsors may:

  • Renew their sponsorship for an additional term by paying the actual costs of restoring the artwork to its original condition.
  • Renew for an additional term for new artwork by paying the actual costs for services related to the redesign and repainting of the artwork.
  • Decline a renewal, in which case Visit Pearland shall retain, restore, recycle, or relocate the Artwork at the City’s sole discretion.

What recognition will I receive?

Sponsors receive:

  • Recognition on a commemorative plaque recognizing their contribution to PearScape near the sculpture.
  • Professional photography of the completed artwork.
  • Inclusion in the Visit Pearland promotional materials, digital listings, and maps as part of the PearScape public art program.

Who is responsible for maintenance?

PearScape is guided by a commitment to stewardship – ensuring that public artworks are cared for, maintained, and preserved as part of Pearland’s cultural environment.

The PearScape installations will be maintained for the agreed-upon period (5-10 years). For PearScape Trail artworks, Visit Pearland conducts regular maintenance reviews on all pears and provides needed cleaning and maintenance.

How does PearScape benefit the community?

PearScape celebrates and supports artists while enhancing public spaces and creating opportunities for residents and visitors to engage with art in everyday environments.

The program also contributes to the Pearland’s growth as a cultural and tourism destination while fostering long-term stewardship of public art across the city.

Why Now?
