When looking for things to do near Houston consider Pearland’s historic district. The Old Townsite dates to the early days of Texas, when a diverse group of settlers and a mysterious nobleman from Poland, sought new opportunities in the Lone Star State. Pearland’s story began in the Old Townsite 125-years ago in 2019.

Today, Pearland’s diverse population is readily seen in the restaurants, shops, churches and art centers scattered along Broadway which crosses Main Street in the heart of the Old Townsite.

Arts in Pearland

Paulisa Winsong, an award-winning Texas artist, is the proprietor of the newly opened Simply Fine Art Studio in Old Townsite. The gallery features work by local artists, including renown eggshell artist, Sandra Williams, and Larry Pearl, a master in stained glass design.

Windsong, Williams and Pearl teach studio classes in the evening. Beginner classes (ages 5 to 12) are available on Saturdays. For information call 832-493-3451 or visit simplyfineartstudio.com.

Located at 3820 East Broadway, Simply Fine Art Studio is stocked with original jewelry, paintings, eggshell art, wooden bowls, handmade shawls and purses, raku pottery, stained glass, and photography. Open Wednesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday noon to 5 p.m.

Visions of India Exhibit

The Pearland Alliance for Art & Culture in Old Townsite is hosting “Visions of India”, a centuries old collection of artistic and sculptural artifacts on loan from the The Kannappan Art Museum. Exhibit tours for students and groups are welcome by appointment.

“As Scene by Oz”, photographs of Pearland landmarks by local artist David Frazer, and paintings by Sara Frazer are currently on exhibit.

The museum at 2341 N. Galveston Ave #200 is open Tuesday 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sunday 12 to 4 p.m. For information or a private tour call 832-674-0722.
