Pearland is gearing up to host the United States Fastpitch Association (USFA) Super Regional tournament Friday, March 25 through Sunday, March 27th at three sports complexes in the city. Organizers are expecting over 60 girls’ youth softball teams to compete at Centennial Park, Sportsplex at Shadow Creek Ranch and Veterans Field which is the largest showing of team competition in Pearland to date by USFA.  

The March tournament is the third in a series of an eight-tournament agreement for 2022 with USFA and Pearland. The City of Pearland Convention & Visitors Bureau (PCVB) paired with the Parks & Recreation Department successfully hosted six tournaments over a three-year period with USFA and enthusiastically supported additional calendar dates for this calendar year.

USFA has been a strong advocate for equality in sports for over 20 years and organizes fastpitch softball tournaments for 8u through 18u players, where the young athletes are ranked by age and skill. The format selected by USFA guarantees that each team will have the opportunity to play against a minimum of six other teams. 

“USFA began hosting girls fastpitch softball events in the Pearland market in 2019 and have been thoroughly pleased with the support we get on all levels. The CVB teams goes above and beyond to support their event runners, ultimately helping drive the success of our business in Pearland,” said Robert Guerrero, USFA National Director. “The other dynamic that is a huge value add is how cohesive the Parks and CVB staffs work together to create a great experience. Great field crews from the Parks and Rec team put the field in tip top shape. USFA is very excited about the future in Pearland.” 

Since the partnership began, Pearland has hosted a total of 329 teams and an estimated 13,695 visitors to the city.  

“We’ve enjoyed working with USFA to welcome youth girls’ softball teams to Pearland. Many of the athletes, family members and coaches spend the weekend at our hotels and enjoy local dining when they’re off the field. We look forward to growing our partnership with USFA for years to come.” said Tracy Rohrbacher, Executive Director of the PCVB. 

Pearland offers ample space and top-notch facilities for sporting events, with over 175 acres suitable for everything from softball to water polo. The Pearland Parks and Recreation department recently debuted Phase II at the Sportsplex at Shadow Creek Ranch with two cricket/rugby fields and a multipurpose “Miracle Field” area, which includes sports surface designed to accommodate the needs of athletes living with disabilities.
