The Pearland Convention and Visitors Bureau, along with Mayor Reid and City Council members, awarded recipients of the FY 2015 Pearland Cultural Arts Grant Program with a check in a special presentation held before the Pearland City Council meeting on Monday, February 23.  The Pearland Cultural Arts Grant Program provides funds from the hotel occupancy tax for projects that support cultural arts and fine arts in Pearland.

Each year $15,000 is awarded and this year five local arts organizations received funds for their work in the arts including the Pearland Theatre Guild in the amount of $5,000; the Pearland Arts League in the amount of $2,500; Pearland Alliance for Arts and Culture in the amount of $2,500; Make It Up as You Go Productions in the amount of $3,000; and Global Organization for Divinity in the amount of $2,000.

“The arts play a pivotal role in defining Pearland as a destination, said Kim Sinistore, executive director of the Pearland Convention and Visitors Bureau.  “We’re very proud to collaborate with these local organizations and their efforts to promote art within Pearland.”

Since the inception as a Pearland City department in 2013, the Pearland Convention and Visitors Bureau administers the Cultural Arts Grant Program and for 2015 reports an increase in applications and an increase in the number of awards given.
