Pearland Convention & Visitors Bureau among fourteen tourism initiatives to receive grant funding from Houston First Corporation as part of its renewed commitment to grow leisure travel to Houston and the surrounding region.

“We’re very proud to be a recipient of the Marketing Matching Grant program to produce our upcoming Shake, Rattle & Roll promotion in Pearland,” according to Kim Sinistore, executive director of Pearland Convention & Visitors Bureau.  “We’re partnering with the 1940 Air Terminal Museum, the Pearland Theatre Guild, local hotels and partners to create a summer long promotion enticing visitors to Pearland.  A two-day event taking place June 11-12, 2016 featuring an Elvis tribute artist and other attractions will highlight the promotion.”

“Collaboration was a critical component of this program,” says Jorge Franz, senior vice president of Tourism for Visit Houston. “As we looked at efforts to grow leisure travel, one of the things we found lacking was communication and cooperation among likely partners. We set out to encourage new conversations and to increase visibility for our attractions, and I think we’re achieving that.”

The Marketing Matching Grant program encouraged applications with a focus on historic, cultural or niche markets. One of the goals was to increase visibility for museums, attractions, art groups and other Houston experiences to potential visitors more than 150 miles away. Such visitors are more likely to stay in hotels, dine out and experience other activities in the city than those on a day-trip.

Pearland is honored as the only regional Convention and Visitors Bureau awarded funds, click here for a complete list of recipients.  The Pearland Convention & Visitors Bureau team is in the planning stages for this upcoming promotion, stay tuned for details.
