Mayor Tom Reid proclaims May 2-10, 2015 as National Travel and Tourism Week in Pearland, Texas during a special ceremony before City Council on Monday.  The Mayor encourages citizens of Pearland to join in the special observance of this tradition first celebrated on a national level in 1984.

This year, the Pearland Convention and Visitors Bureau salutes National Travel and Tourism Week with a Travel Rally Picnic on Friday, May 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pearland Town Center Event Pavilion, 11200 Broadway Street.

Hospitality professionals, business leaders, and community partners will gather during the picnic to celebrate tourism in Pearland and recognize local hospitality partners.  The event is generously sponsored by the Ivy District.

The travel and tourism industry is celebrated in communities across America to draw attention to the economic impact the industry has in our cities.

“Travel and tourism is one of America’s largest industries and this especially holds true in Texas.  Locally in Pearland, during 2013, travelers spent $127 million and generated tax revenues of $3.2 million which includes sales tax and occupancy tax and directly supports 1,060 jobs. We’re very proud to be part of this thriving industry and represent Pearland as a destination in Texas.” said Kim Sinistore, Executive Director Pearland Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Pearland is quickly becoming a culinary destination with foodies flocking to several notable local restaurants.  Perfectly placed near the amenities of Houston, Pearland is a natural choice for travelers looking for personalized service and easy access to surrounding amenities.
