Vibrant, splashy color is what Pearland residents and business owners, Angelo Giokas and wife Carrie had in mind to boost the look of their local boutique – the Sugared Pear Boutique. The duo wanted to capture the iconic looks of the mural trend that’s swept Houston, Austin and nearby towns even before they met Kelly Kronfeld of Pearland’s Art & Kustom Kreations.
The Giokas immediately connected with Kronfeld during their initial conversation and soon after sketches for a mural began. Artist Chris Garcia of Art & Kustom Kreations pitched designs encompassing everything Pearland and Texas represent to cover the 64’ x 10’ wall of the Pearland building the couple owns at 3532 Broadway Street. Garcia is currently working on the mural with an expected finish date of March 11th so he can move on to another client project.
“We wanted something that would bring attention and really define our location here on the curve of a busy street. I thought about ways to bring life to a boring, ugly wall. Chris knew exactly what I wanted before I knew,” says Angelo.
Carrie Giaokos grew up in Pearland and graduated from Pearland High School and says the boutique’s namesake – the Sugared Pear Boutique came from the merging of her hometown’s name and Angelo’s hometown of Sugar Land.
The couple rented the current space in 2006 and became owners in 2016. The Sugared Pear Boutique has 5 employees and is open 7 days a week. Soft plans for an event to celebrate the mural completion are in the works but the couple is busy with other businesses, traveling for local, vendor shows and going to market to stock the boutique.
