Break through the gloomy weather and enjoy events in and around the Pearland area this weekend:

1. Celebrate the opening of Pearland’s first full-service hospital, Pearland Medical Center, on Saturday, January 17 from 9 a.m. to noon.  Face painting for kids plus they can learn about vital organs as they walk through interactive large-scale, educational models of a human heart and brain.  Music from Sunny 99.1 FM plus breakfast from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and Killen’s BBQ from 11 a.m. to noon.  Tour the facility and meet the dedicated staff of this state-of-the-art facility.

The Texas Medical Center2.  Architecture Center Houston introduces a new architectural tour of the Texas Medical Center on Saturday, January 17 at 10 a.m.  The Texas Medical Center is the largest medical center in the world.  Equivalent to the 12th largest business district in the United States, the TMC has 45.5 million square feet of patient care, education and research space.  Join ArCH docents on this tour of Houston’s modern marvel of medicine.

3.  Explore the Battleship Texas with a Hard Hat Tour and behind the scenes look at this historic ship on Saturday, January 17.  The in-depth 3 ½ hour tour allows visitors to view areas of the ship that have not had any restorative work for several years.  Tours begin promptly at 8:30am, 10:30 am and 1:00pm. There are a limited number of spaces available, reservations are required.  Tours are offered for a minimum donation of $50 per person.

4. Celebrate the final weeks of the Monet and Seine: Impressions of a River exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston with ice skating!  For two days only January 17-18, the Cullinan Hall transforms into a full-sized ice rink during Monet on Ice!

5. International Gem & Jewelry Show shines at NRG Stadium, Friday, January 16 through Sunday, January 18. Visitors can take a look at dazzling world gems, minerals and jewelry.

6. Take in a parade or two on Monday, January 19 in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy.
