Hatchet-throwing, one of America’s hottest urban sports, has arrived at Hurling Hatchet in Pearland. While throwing a hatchet at a target won’t replace darts, the game is growing in popularity. First, it’s a lot of fun to play and easy to learn for girls and guys. Hurling Hatchet offers group packages for 4 to 12 persons and individuals can play if spots are available.
Hatchet throwing parties are trendy for adult wedding parties, birthdays, girls and boys night out, reunions, and team building outings. Divorce celebrations are popular with the ladies.
Ax Throwing Basics
The basics of ax throwing is simple enough. A player throws a hatchet at a 4-feet high by 4-feet wide target from a line 12-feet away. “Sticking” is the term for when an ax sticks in the target.Hurling Hatchet has 10 stalls with two targets per stall. There is plenty of room to release your inner-warrior said, Brian Husband, a partner in the venture.
“I know hurling an ax sounds kind of crazy, but it’s really relaxing. And loads of fun. With just minor adjustments after a couple of practice throws, most players get the ax to stick,” said Husband. “Women are really good at it.”
Like most target games, points are based on where the ax sticks on the board; 6 is the bullseye. Coaches work with players on the art of the game, safety, throwing and dislodging an ax. There are restrictions; players must be 12-years or older and closed toe shoes are a must. Players under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
