HLSR-cook-offThe World’s Championship Bar-B-Que cook-off officially marks the pre-party celebration of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.  The competition heats with over 250 teams participating in the three-day barbecue contest which begins Thursday, February 26 at NRG Park.

Teams submit at least one entry in the meat category including brisket, chicken, and ribs and place in several categories.  Judges evaluate entries based on smell, tenderness, taste, texture.  Pearland’s own chef Ronnie Killen will be among the teams competing.  Winners join the ranks of the prestigious World’s Championship Bar-B-Que tradition dating back 40 years.

Although the team competition held under team tents is invitation only, visitors can enjoy the public venues available for dancing and dining.

The Garden provides live music all three days.  The Rockin Bar-B-Que Saloon has a spot for two-stepping dance and an outside patio area for dining and beverages.   Visit the Chuck Wagon at the Saloon to enjoy a chopped barbecue beef sandwich plate (included with the cost of admission).

Enjoy three days of great fun and the ultimate pre-party event leading up to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo festivities held at NRG Park which is only a short drive away from Pearland.
