Prepare for a ghostly-good time at Hops and History: A Tour of Old Settler’s Cemetery with three shows per night on both Saturday, October 18 and Friday, October 24.
Presented by Commissioner Stacy Adams’ office, the Forever Parks Foundation of Pearland, Vallensons’ Brewing Company, and Visit Pearland, guests are invited to partake in a hike through history from Vallensons’ to the Old Settler’s Cemetery led by special pathfinders from the past, hear from early Pearland residents, and enjoy a cold beverage back at the brewery.
The Old Settler’s Cemetery is the original community graveyard for the city of Pearland that can regularly be toured during Pearland park hours, dawn until dusk, but is transformed for the Hops and History event to become a stage for this annual production. Players from The Pearl Theater portray figures buried at the cemetery, revealing their stories and connecting Pearland’s past to the present with spooky storytelling and period costumes.
Attendees can prepare for their journey through the cemetery by listening to The 1894 Podcast, an audio companion deep-dive into the history of Pearland inspired by the Hops and History event. In the latest episode, Leslie Barrera of The Pearl Theater discusses constructing the script and planning production for the Hops and History cemetery tour for a second year.
Now in its third year, the inaugural Hops and History event earned recognition from the Texas Independence Trail Region, a branch of the Texas Historical Commission, with their annual Heritage Tourism Achievement Award.
Tickets are on sale now for $25 with shows running at 6, 7, and 8 p.m. on both Saturday, October 18 and Friday, October 24. Registration includes participation in the tour and two beverage tokens redeemable for both beer and non-alcoholic drinks in the Vallensons’ taproom.
