The 5th Annual Juried Exhibition of Pearland Arts League (PAL) shared the spotlight with Author Robert Sholley Saturday, September 19th at the newly established Pearland Alliance for Arts & Culture (PAA&C) facility at 2341 N. Galveston in Pearland.
The 200 evening attendees were immersed in the arts for the event beginning with a review of Colonel Robert Sholly”s book “Young Soldiers, Amazing Warriors” sponsored by Pearland Alliance for Arts & Culture and ending with the 5th Annual Juried Art Exhibition sponsored by Pearland Arts League. Four Friends Tea Room catered the event. Notables attending the event included: Mayor Tom Reid, Councilman Tony Carbone, Superintendent of PISD Dr. John Kelly, Steve Saboe President of PAA&C, Naomi Stevens President of PAL, Kim Sinistore, Executive Director of the Pearland Convention & Visitors Bureau along with Tracy Rohrbacher, Marketing Manager of the Pearland Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Co-Chairs for “Fusion of the Arts” were Margo I. Green representing Pearland Arts League and Paulisa Winsong representing Pearland Alliance for Arts & Culture. Grant money provided by the city of Pearland awarded by the Convention and Visitors Bureau aided in presenting this joint effort by PAA&C and PAL.
Michael Slattery and Margo I. Green were co-chairs of the 5th Annual Juried Art Show. Sixty-one entries were submitted to the juried event out of which thirty-one entries were selected by Juror, Dennis LaValley, Chair of the Art Department of Alvin Community College. Dennis LaValley, said “You made it hard for me, there were so many qualified entries”. Entries were from Pearland, Dickinson, Friendswood, Montgomery, Houston and New Braunfels. Winners of this event were:
Best of Show-Lauren Luna, Artist; 1st Place-Sandra Derrick, Artist; 2nd Place-Calvin Powitzky, Artist; Honorable Mention-Steve Ross Fisher, Artist, and Honorable Mention-Annika Farmer, Artist.
October 3rd and 4th will be the next art event, “Pearland Art and Crafts at the Pavilion”, at the Pearland Town Center. This 40+ assembly of artists and artisans is presented by the Pearland Convention and Visitors Bureau and includes PAL and PAA&C booths.
