eurydice-webThe Pearl Theater presents Eurydice, Sarah Ruhl’s whimsical and poetic reimagining of the classic Greek Orpheus myth opening October 21 and running through November 6, 2016.

In Eurydice, life and death exists side by side as we follow Eurydice into the underworld where she reunites with her departed father and is subjected to the taunts of a haughty group of Stones commenting on her condition throughout the play. Eurydice’s loving husband Orpheus risks his own life to bring her back to the world of the living. In a moment of crisis, she must make the difficult decision of whether to follow Orpheus out of the realm of the dead or remain with her beloved father.

Written in dedication to Ruhl’s deceased father, the story explores powerful themes of love and loss, family, remembrance and forgetfulness. Bringing this heartbreakingly beautiful work to life is Pearland Theatre Guild’s founder Renee van Nifterik, assisted by Peter van Nifterik. This production is part of the director’s National Michael Chekhov Teaching Certification Candidacy program and features outstanding actors from Houston, Pearland and surrounding areas. Amanda Marie Parker plays the title character, Eurydice, while Edwin Green plays the musician, Orpheus, with Jonathan Gonzalez as the Father, David Alexander Balbuena as the Nasty Interesting Man/Child, with a trio of stones, Rebecca Lewis as Big Stone, Sara Denton as Loud Stone, and Amber Holtz as Little Stone.
