We salute National Travel & Tourism Week May 7-13, 2017. America’s annual salute to travel and tourism focuses on the Faces of Travel this year. Travel is a primary industry in America and impacts the economy in several ways:
Tourism plays a significant role in the economic impact of the City of Pearland, by bringing in $129 million in 2015 in visitor spending and $4.6 million in local tax revenues, which includes sales tax and occupancy tax and total employment of 1,200. Pearland has experienced a steady growth in direct travel impact during the past 10 years. Tourism is one of Texas’ largest industries. In 2015, travelers spent $68.7 billion in the State of Texas and generated $6 billion in state and local tax revenues and employed over 1.1 million.
Join us Friday, May 12 for the Pearland Travel Rally Picnic, our third annual celebration of the impact of travel, held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pearland Town Center, 11200 Broadway. We’ll recognize the local faces of travel with hospitality and tourism professionals, business leaders, and community partners during the picnic celebrating tourism in Pearland.
