Pearland’s development began in 1892 when William Zychlinski, a Polish Count, purchased 2,560 acres of land surrounding the Mark Belt outpost along the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe rail lines. Zychlinski platted out the Old Townsite district in 1894, which has since become a dynamic center for commerce, innovation, and community life in Pearland.

Zychlinski fell in love with the flowering pear trees in an area he called Pear Land. Though pear trees are no longer as plentiful in the city, the Pear-Scape Trail launched the grand return of the pear to Pearland after the city transitioned from its historically agricultural landscape to the shopping, foodie, and events destination that it is today.
