Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the aptly renamed Adidas John Turner Volleyball Classic hits the courts in Pearland Thursday, August 10 through Saturday, August 12, 2017.

The tournament has held several different names over the past 20 years but was recently named after former Pearland head volleyball coach John Turner who retired from coaching in 2016.  Turner remains at Pearland High School as an instructor.  Coach Turner had the vision to create the invitational tournament which quickly grew to become one of the biggest high school volleyball tournaments in the nation.

This year, 78 teams from all over Texas will compete in the tournament at various Pearland ISD locations as well as the Pearland Recreation Center.  Some have referred to the tournament as the pre-season Texas state volleyball tournament.  In 2016, 45 teams in the tournament field made the playoffs.
