This week we’re celebrating National Travel & Tourism Week, America’s annual salute to travel and tourism! Travel is a primary industry in America and impacts the economy in several ways:
Tourism plays a significant role in the economic impact of the City of Pearland, by bringing in $136 million in 2014 in visitor spending and $4.4 million in local tax revenues, which includes sales tax and occupancy tax and total employment of 1,160. Pearland has experienced a steady growth in direct travel impact during the past 10 years. Tourism is one of Texas’ largest industries. In 2014, travelers spent $70.6 billion in the State of Texas and generated $6 billion in state and local tax revenues and employed over 1.1 million.
Follow us on Facebook this week as we celebrate the impact of travel during “Travel 16”. And, be sure to join us for the Pearland Travel Rally Picnic on Friday, May 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pearland Town Center. Hospitality professionals, business leaders, and community partners will gather during the picnic to celebrate tourism in Pearland and recognize local hospitality partners. The event is generously sponsored by The Ivy District.
