Gone are the days when volleyball was a simple game casually played by high school friends in a park or gym. Today, serious volleyball players train, practice and compete for high school teams at custom-designed volleyball facilities starting in elementary school. In Pearland, Texas United Volleyball (TUV), located in Pearland’s Old Townsite district, trains players to participate in high performance, competitive volleyball starting at 8 years of age.

A love of volleyball, determination and coaching experience spurred on single mom, Bea Aguilera, to open Texas United Volleyball. Aguilera chose Pearland because she played volleyball at Pearland High School, as did her three daughters who help manage the business. She also saw a need in the Pearland area for a large, multi-purpose facility designed for volleyball and potentially other community activities. While players are typically from the Pearland area, some players drive in from Houston and other cities to train. Earlier this year, Texas United Volleyball hosted a one-day tournament that attracted 16 teams and approximately 500 people to Pearland.

Texas United offers three developmental classes that last approximately 8 weeks. Athletes attend a weekly class and learn fundamental volleyball skills. Developmental athletes are between the ages of 4 to 12. The club also offers specialty classes for advanced players and Buddy Classes for ages 4-6. The Club Division begins competitive play for girls 8-years and older.

Accreditation

Texas United Volleyball teams participates in USA Volleyball (USAV) tournaments. USA Volleyball, the national governing body of the sport, serves volleyball players at all ages and levels through 40 Regional Volleyball Associations. Texas United Volleyball is a certified member and has passed background checks.

Venue Possibilities

Texas United Volleyball’s 26,000-square feet facility is divided into four volleyball courts, a concession space, and offices. The facility is available during the day to organizations needing a large space, or a venue for special events like birthday parties. The flooring is a specialized Olympic grade which limits some activities, but it’s ideal for badminton and pickleball.
