This Rodeo Season, Find Killen’s Famed Brisket Adorning Pies at Papa John’s Houston and NRG Park

Saddle up! Houston’s favorite time of year—rodeo season—is officially upon us! Since nothing says “Houston” and “Rodeo” like Killen’s Barbecue, Chef and Pitmaster Ronnie Killen of Pearland is helping Papa John’s Houston get rodeo-ready with Killen’s Barbecue Brisket Pizza, a limited-time offer available February 18 through March 31 at all participating Papa John’s Houston locations, as well as at NRG Park, home to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Killen’s Barbecue Brisket Pizza by Papa John’s Houston marks the company’s first partnership with a high-profile chef to create a limited-time pizza. “We met Ronnie through our mutual partnership with the Houston Texans and knew immediately that he would be the perfect partner to create a pizza for us during rodeo season,” says Keith Sullins, president of Papa John’s Houston. “Besides, what’s better than having Killen’s Barbecue delivered to your door?”

Harnessing Ronnie Killen’s famed smoked brisket and housemade barbecue sauce, combined with onions, pickles, a generous amount of mozzarella cheese and crispy bacon, the large-size-only pizza retails for $17.99 and is available in regular or thin crust. Perhaps coincidence, but Killen’s mantra of “Best Barbecue, PERIOD” certainly aligns well with Papa John’s “Better Ingredients, Better Pizza.” The winning combination was created by Killen and then developed and tested together with the Papa John’s Houston culinary team.

“We spent several months developing the recipes and finding the perfect company to cook the briskets exactly like we cook them at Killen’s Barbecue,” says Killen. “The fact that Papa John’s prides itself on using the freshest ingredients, just as Killen’s does, sealed the deal to partner with them.”

The campaign will be supported by TV and radio spots featuring Killen and Sullins, so stay tuned for more from them about this truly Texan pizza pie.
