Winter Games Sanctioned by the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Arrive in Pearland

The City of Pearland is preparing for the arrival of the Winter Games of Texas in Pearland on January 12-14, 2018. The 3-day sports festival, sanctioned by the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF), is patterned after the Olympic games with athletes competing for medals in various competitions ranging from archery to wheelchair rugby.  Events will play out at nineteen venues across the City of Pearland.

The event is co-hosted by the City of Pearland Parks and Recreation and the Pearland Convention and Visitors Bureau.  Coordination with local sports organizations and preparations are underway during this phase of the planning effort.  Currently, staff is preparing facilities to welcome thousands of athletes, coaches and spectators to Pearland for the event.

“Several months of planning are culminating as we get closer to the arrival of the Winter Games of Texas,” according to Kim Sinistore, executive director of the Pearland Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We are extremely proud to host this event and welcome thousands of athletes to our City.”

Pearland’s Gulf Coast climate was a draw for sports event organizers.  Paired with easy access to Houston amenities and the local charm of the City, the move to Pearland for the 2018 and 2019 TAAF Winter Games of Texas was a solid choice.

Texas amateur athletes are invited to register online at www.TAAF.com for their sport of choice with 15 different competitions including archery, youth basketball, football, golf, gymnastics, kickball, lacrosse, martial arts, pickleball, powerlifting, youth soccer, softball, swimming, tennis and wheelchair rugby.

Medal winners in each division of the TAAF Winter Games of Texas qualify for the national State Games of America 2019 in Lynchburg, Virginia.
