Smoke rings from BBQ pits and sounds of live music will fill the air at Briscoe Park in Alvin, Texas just around the corner from Pearland on April 7-8, 2017 as the Alvin Sunrise Rotary Club will host the Alvin Music Festival and Cook-Off.
“This is our 6th Annual Alvin Music Festival and Cook Off and with a lot of hard work from our club and great support from our sponsors it will be the best year yet!” said Sunrise Rotary President Nick Droege.
Alvin Sunrise Rotary in conjunction with the Alvin Convention and Visitors Bureau, who is a band sponsor; along with Survey 1, Inc., and Del Papa Distributing serving as the event sponsors and Ron Carter Automotive Dealerships support as title sponsors for the event, along with Depco and Texas Tail Vodka, presents two days of live music, IBCA Sanctioned Cook-Off, kids area, Pook’s Crawfish, food vendors, beer and wine garden at the largest event in Northern Brazoria County. Entry fee on Friday and Saturday will be $15 Friday, $20 Saturday and $5 for Kids over five. Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome for setting. No coolers or pets are allowed, except service animals. Parking will be available at Alvin Community College.
Friday night the gates will open at 4 p.m. with the music kicking off at 6 p.m. featuring “Erica Honore.” She will be followed by Brazoria County native, Texas Country artist “Cole Degges” at 8 p.m. The headliner will feature country legendary artists the “Bellamy Brothers” at 10 p.m. Saturday the gates will open at 10 a.m. with the Bands kicking off at 2 p.m. with “Booth and Company” they will be followed by Stevin Marsh at 4 p.m. At 6 p.m. Alvin’s very own country music star “Junior Gordon” will take the stage followed by New Orleans Party Band “Bag of Donuts” at 8 p.m. Closing out the event will be American country music singer “Easton Corbin” taking the stage at 10 p.m.
140 cook teams will compete in the International Barbecue Cookers Association-sanctioned cook-off. Events will begin Friday afternoon and the winners will be announced Saturday evening. Cash prizes totaling $4,000 will be awarded for brisket, pork ribs, chicken, beans and Friday night feast. A Fajita Jackpot competition will also be held.
There will be plenty of food for purchase from trucks and trailers such as; Crawfish from Pook’s, Adolph’s BBQ, Corey’s Kitchen, Predator and Prey, and Kona Ice to name a few. The Beer Garden will be available on both Friday and Saturday along with beer and a frozen concoction!
The festival will have an area for kids to play. The $5 gate fee will get kids into the kids area to play all day and all activities are included at no extra cost.
The Sunrise Rotary is raffling off a 2017 Nautical Star 1910 Nautical Bay with 110 hp Yamaha motor valued at $35,000. Tickets can be purchased from any Sunrise Rotarian for $20 each.
Funds raised from the event will be used to support local organizations including the Alvin Food Pantry, Brazoria County Fair, Alvin FFA, Meals on Wheels, Alvin Family Community Center, Thelma Ley Anderson Family YMCA, the City of Alvin Parks and Recreation, Alvin Police Department and local scholarships to high school students. “This year’s event is going to be tons of fun. We couldn’t do this without all of our wonderful partners and sponsors. Come out and spend the weekend in Alvin and help Sunrise Rotarians give back to the community.
