Birding

Pearland sits in Brazoria County and is home to more bird species than any other area in North America. During the Migration season of April and May many songbirds are in the air. During the months of July through September, a variety of coastal birds from several species arrive in Pearland’s local parks.

Bright-colored birds and their chirping are the norm at two of the more popular sites in Pearland for birding – the Shadow Creek Nature Trail and John Hargrove Environmental Center. Roseate spoonbills, little blue herons, and cattle egrets also frequent Independence Park and Centennial Park in Pearland as well.  Click here for more details.

History

The origin of Pearland’s namesake stems from the flowering pear trees found in the late 1800s by Polish nobleman Mark Zychlinski.  Today, Zychlinski Park is home to two of the 20 unique, 4-foot pear sculptures installed around the City.

Known as Pear-Scape, the trail of pears painted by local artists is a nod to Pearland’s historical namesake.  Pears at the Gulf, Colorado & Sante Fe Railroad Depot are a popular selfie spot for many visitors to Pearland.  For a complete list of the Pear-Scape Trail locations click here.
