Lend Me a Tenor - Pearl Theatre“One of the hardest things to do well is comedy,” says Cleo House, Jr., director of The Pearland Theatre Guild’s upcoming production of Lend Me a Tenor.

“I am working with actors who are willing to come up to the plate and take big swings at the ball. They aren’t afraid of the comedy,” continues House.

Ken Ludwig’s Tony-winning farce about the incredible things that go wrong with the Cleveland Opera Company’s 1934 gala fundraiser is “almost a laugh a minute,” says the director. There’s a zany chain-reaction of mistaken identity, double-entendre humor, sidesplitting innuendo, and just plain old slapstick fun.

There are bodies that aren’t really quite dead, and plenty of moments when the characters wish they were, when opera manager Saunders brings the world-renowned tenor Tito Merelli, aka Il Stupendo, to town, setting off the mayhem.

House has assembled an outstanding cast of characters played by some very committed actors: Justin Nicholson as Max, Robyn LeGris as Saunders, Ty Fisher as Tito, Destiny Duhon as Maggie, Renee van Nifterik as Maria, Phyllis Lee as Julia, and Bryce Cooper as the Bellhop.
